When I call home, why does the auto dialer pick up before my answering machine?

If you’re calling in from out of town, this may be caused by a special ring tone for long distance calls. If your incoming ring tone for a long distance call sounds like 2 quick rings, the dialer may interpret this as 2 full rings, which can disrupt the count that the dialer uses to determine when to respond. Unfortunately at this time we have no correction as their are many possible combinations of unique rings. We suggest that you contact your phone carrier and request the standard ring tone, even for long distance calls.
