How Can I Install A Storm Door Handle On A 1/2" Thick Door?

Our handle sets come with installation hardware for doors ranging between 7/8" to 2", depending on the chosen handle set. That being said, you may have a 1/2" storm door.

Our push-button and pull handle sets can be installed on 1/2" thick doors, though you may need to cut the spindle (the metal rod connecting the outside handle and inside latch) to fit. The spindle should protrude no more than 3/8" from the inside door surface. Your screws may also need to be shortened.  If your handle has an integrated key lock, the recommended door thickness is 3/4". Installation may not be possible on a thinner door.

We recommend adding an additional latch shim or two to provide artificial thickness to your door; this allows for easier handle installation.
