SK800 Spindles & Screws Guide (Bilingual / Bilingues)
Included in your Ideal Security sliding patio door handle package is a key cylinder and a 3" spindle pre-assembled to the outside handle, which fits doors up to 3.5" thick. If your door is thinner, the spindle can be cut using a hack saw or pliers.
We strongly recommend that you verify the measurements of your door and the desired spindle length prior to cutting the spindle. Your spindle should always be 1/2" less than the thickness of your door; for example, if your door is 2" thick, the spindle must be 1.5" long. The image below (not to scale) shows the pre-assembled key cylinder and spindle in the outside handle. Do not measure the image. Instead, use the "SK800 Spindles & Screws Guide (Bilingual / Bilingues)".
If you have cut your spindle too short, you cannot replace the spindle alone. You have to replace the key cylinder and the spindle assembly, or replace the whole outside handle assembly.
In the assembly process of our sliding door handles, the spindle becomes permanently affixed to the key cylinder itself. The combined spindle and key cylinder is then held in place by a component called a retainer ring.
To replace the spindle and key cylinder, the retainer ring must be removed using retainer ring plier.
If you have the tools to remove the retainer ring, we are able to send you an pre-assembled key cylinder and spindle. You can reuse the retainer ring.
If you do not have the correct tools to remove the retainer ring, there is unfortunately no other way to replace the pre-assembled key cylinder and spindle of the patio door handle. At this point, the best course of action is to order a replacement sliding door handle with lock.
