How to use keyed deadbolt set as no-key inside deadbolt only?

For model GLK and 703

It can be done following the "special installation" below.

What is the standard installation?

The standard installation is to install the spindle as per instructions.

Here is how the locking and unlocking work:

When turning the key from outside, the key cylinder drives the spindle and the spindle drives the inside deadbolt to lock and unlock the door. That means user can lock and unlock the door from outside using key, and user from inside can lock and unlock the door using the thumb turn.

Special installation

If user doesn't want to use the key to lock and unlock the door from outside for what ever reasons, but still want to lock and unlock the door from inside, then do not install the spindle. In this case, the connection in between the outside half and inside half of the lock set is gone, the inside deadbolt is independent to the keyed outside escutcheon. That means the key cannot lock and unlock the door from outside. On the other hand, user can still lock and unlock from inside using the thumb turn.

If your door is new and you don't want to install the keyed outside escutcheon neither, then just use two Pan Head #8, 1" long, metal tapping screws (not included) to attach the inside deadbolt to the inside surface of the door. In this case, don't pre-drill any mounting holes, just make two pilot holes using 1/8" drill bit for the tapping screws.

We have another deadbolt only model SK5. It's a inside deadbolt only. It doesn't come with a keyed outside escutcheon. It uses tapping screws. It's good for replacement of the old SK5 or new installation (without pre-drilled holes).
