Why Are Some Storm and Screen Door Components Painted Instead of Plated?

When it comes to picking out stylish storm and screen door handles, latches, deadbolts, and storm door closers, Ideal Security's got you covered. Our products come in multiple popular finishes ranging from black to white, or plated brass to satin nickel.

Due to the zinc die casting process and the historic design of some of our components, such as our WC Inside Latches, the finish may not exactly match the handle or deadbolt in the set you've chosen - but there are two good reasons for this difference:

1) Our legacy designs hold up to painting or electroplating processes differently. For example, the mold used for some products were not originally designed for plating, which requires highly polished finishes. As a result, trying to plate these products would cause defects and damage. We manufacture our exterior handles and inside latches separately using different molds and processes, which is why your outside handle may not always have the same finish as your inside latch or deadbolt.

2) Plating is not possible for all finishes. All white and black finishes are painted because no plating methods exist for these finishes.

We aim to clearly show you the sheen and finish of our components in the provided images on each product page. Make sure to examine them to pick out a finish that's to your liking. Uncertain as to how your latch might look with a handle? That's why we've compiled our most popular components into elegant handle sets to make choosing the right set for your storm or screen door a breeze!
